SOAR DISCUSSION GUIDE
Preparing To Cross Over
Ps Barry Cutchie
Scripture
Read Joshua 3-4
Observation
– What did the crossing over the Jordan river represent for the nation of Israel?
– In what ways did the previous generation fail to prepare internally and externally in order to cross over into the promise land?
– What did it mean for the new generation to consecrate themselves (Joshua 3:5)? What preparations did they need to make internally and externally in order to cross over the Jordan river into the promises of God?
– What were the amazing things God accomplished as they consecrated themselves?
Application
– What is the metaphorical Jordan river that you have to cross over?
– Ps Barry shared that in order to cross over we have to; 1) be prepared to leave our comfort zone 2) challenge our unbelief 3) embrace change 4) deal with our pain and failure. Share with one another what are some of the things that you have to confront in order to cross over your Jordan river?
– Ps Barry led us through an experience for us as a church in our current situation to deal with our pain and failure by asking us to 1) acknowledge our pain 2) to decide we want healing 3) choose to forgive 4) confess our sins 4) destroy anything we hold on to 5) and receive God’s healing. Share with one another what that experience was like for you.
Response
Joshua 3:5 says, “Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”
Ps Barry encouraged us that the best days are yet to come and gave us a pink sheet of paper that encouraged us to seek the Lord with two questions:
- As I cross over the amazing thing(s) God promises me (my family) is/are….
- As we cross over the amazing thing(s) God promises our congregation is/are….
Share with one another what are some of the amazing things God promises for you and our church family. Spend some time claiming these promises in prayer.
