DISCUSSION GUIDE
Prayerful Planning (ARISE – Nehemiah series)
Ps Chee
Scripture
Read Nehemiah 1-2:10
Observation
- What is the context of the book of Nehemiah in light of God’s redemptive story?
- What is God’s burden for the people of Israel?
- What was Nehemiah’s burden? Why was this a burden to Nehemiah?
- Ps Chee shared that everyone would have heard and some would have seen the broken walls of Jerusalem. Why is it that Nehemiah rose and build, while others did not?
- How did Nehemiah nurture and respond to his burden?
Application
Ps Chee shared three insights about Nehemiah that we can apply in our lives to begin building our lives for the mission of God:
- Burden – what is your burden personally and for the church? Is it a God given burden or an earthly burden?
- Prayer – what is your vision of God? Are your praying for opportunities or miracles?
- Planning – how are you planning and preparing to seize God given opportunities?
Share with one another your answers to these questions for your personal lives.
Response
- The theme for 2016 is to ‘ARISE AND BUILD – building our lives for the mission of God’. Pray for one another’s burdens and for the Spirit of God to convict the hearts of the people towards this theme.
- Encourage one another to commit to praying together at Prayer hub – first Tuesday of every month 7:30-9:30pm at church
Please note: Read Nehemiah 2 in preparation for this coming Sunday
