DISCUSSION GUIDE

The Foundation of Truth
Ps Chee Fah

Theme 2016
“Arise and Build – building our lives for the mission of God.”

Scripture
Break into three groups and designate the following chapters to be read and discussed within the group:
Group #1 – Nehemiah 8
Group #2 – Nehemiah 9
Group #3 – Nehemiah 10

Observation
In your individual groups answer the following questions:
1. How did the people come under the authority of the Word of God?
2. What was the people’s attitude towards the Word of God?
3. What changes did people make in their lives in response to the Word of God?
Once you’ve finished answering the questions, gather together as a life group and discuss your answers with one another.

Application
Personally reflect upon your life and answer the following questions:
1. Do I live my life with a biblical worldview? Discuss. Give personal examples.
2. Reflect on your current engagement with the Word of God. What does it reflect about your attitude towards the Word of God?
3. What one step of commitment can you make to return to the Word of God as the foundation of truth for your life?

Response
It’s important as Christians building our lives for the mission of God that we represent Jesus by living with radical truth and radical grace. Ps Chee raised one way we can do that as Christians today is to respond with truth and grace to the ‘Safe Schools Coalition’ debate by writing to our local MPs.
Below are some links that you can access to be informed about the issue and be guided how you can respond:
1. Safe Schools Coalition websitehttp://www.safeschoolscoalition.org.au. A site to learn more about the program
2. Family Voice Australia websitehttp://www.fava.org.au. A Christian organisation that will provides a Christian voice and guidance to political issues that influence family, faith and freedom. You can read about their concerns about this program and how they suggest we respond http://action.fava.org.au/unsafeschools
3. Find attached in this email an example of a ‘letter to the MP’ from a church member

Next week – please read Nehemiah 12 in preparation for this coming Sunday.
