The Blessing of Generosity

Scripture
Read 1 Timothy 6:6-19

Observation
Choose one or more of the following questions:
– What does it mean to have godliness with contentment? How is it great ain?
– How is the love of money a root of all kinds of evil? Share from your personal experiences.
– How does the pursuit of money cause people to wander from their faith? How does it pierce people with griefs?
– Is the Scripture against those who are rich? How does God want us to be rich?

Application
Ps Barry shared that God desires for us to live a life of generosity. He shared three impacts of living a life of generosity:

1. Our generosity blesses God – it demonstrates HIs Lordship, trust and it is God’s antidote to materialism
2. Our generosity blesses people – it needs people’s needs, it changes people for eternity and it is God’s antidote to greed
3. Our generosity blesses ourselves – it reflects God’s character, it brings a kingdom investment and it is God’s antidote for the curse of debt

Choose one or more of the following questions:
– Share an example of how you’ve personally experienced the blessing of generosity.
– Reflect on the most generous person you know. Share with one another how their generosity is a blessing to God, to people and to themselves.
– What are some of the challenges you face (internally and externally) in living a life of generosity?
– In what ways do you struggle with materialism, greed or experience the curse of debt? How is generosity an antidote for you to those issues?

Response
Spend some time praying and asking the Lord – what is my next step of living a life of generosity? Share with the group and pray for one another.
