SOAR DISCUSSION GUIDE
LIVING DIRECTED LIVES
Pastor Chee
Scripture
Read 2 Thessalonians 3
Observation
Ask one or more of the following questions:
- The church in Thessalonica was going through hardship and needed encouragement to stay faithful to God. How does Paul encourage them to do that through this chapter?
- How is Paul able to speak with confidence that the Thessalonians would continue obeying God even in their difficulties (vs 4)?
- What does it mean that God directs our hearts? How does He do that?
- Why were people idle? How was that impacting the Christian community?
- How does Paul instruct God’s people to deal with the issue of idleness?
Application
In our lives there are times when we grow weary in doing the good that God wants us to do (vs 13). Ps Chee shared three insights of how we can continue doing the good God wants us to do:
- Reassess our expectations in light of eternity
- Know that God is involved in directing our hearts into His love and endurance of Christ
- God empowers us to do good even when it’s hard
- Describe a time when you have grown weary in doing the good that God wants you to do.
- How did you deal with your weariness? What were some of your struggles in your weariness?
- How does eternity help us reassess our struggle?
- What was your experience of God in the midst of your weariness?
Response
Ps Chee shared that in our struggle we are busy seeking God to tell us ‘what’ to do, when He is wanting to show us ‘who’ He is.
– How do you respond to that statement? Is that true? Can you give examples in your life.
– How did knowing the ‘Who’ of God empower you to do that good God wants you to do even when it was hard?
Some of us may be in a season of weariness, pray for one another that God would direct our hearts to know His love and endurance. Also continue praying for the Senior Pastor Search Committee that they would discern the leader of God’s choosing.
Next week: We will be kicking off our 40 Days of Community Campaign. Please encourage one another to sit together in your life groups this coming Sunday.
