SOAR DISCUSSION GUIDE

Valuing Women & Children

Wei-Lyn FAH

Vision  – to build disciples who represents Jesus to everyone, everywhere with everything.
Introduction
One of the key values in discipleship is hearing and obeying the Word. Therefore, it is important to have accountability to one another for our step of obedience from studying the Word. Spend the first part of your discussion asking – how did your step of obedience go from last time we met?
Scripture
Read:
  • Matthew 9:13-15
  • John 4:6-29
  • Luke 10:38-42
Observation
  • What do these passages tell you the way women and children are viewed?
  • What observations do you make about how Jesus treats women and children? (even as he confronts them when they are in the wrong)
  • How do you think women and children react and receive Jesus?
Application

Jesus has done a lot to change the value of women throughout the centuries and indeed a lot of men treat women well and with respect. However, this message challenged us to consider some of the ways with which women are still being devalued in our world.

Create space to listen to the women in your group. Put aside theological positions and opinions. Simply seek to listen and understand. Ask the women two questions:

  1. Have there been times where you felt like you were treated differently or overlooked for something just because you are a woman?
  2. Have there been any experiences in your life where you felt like you were objectified?
Response
  1. Is there anything that you feel like God is confronting you with in regards to you attitude towards women and children?
  2. Is there anything that you can do as an act of kindness or restitution towards the women or children in you life? What is God asking you to do?
  3. What are you going to do with that?
