SOAR DISCUSSION GUIDE
The Purpose of Life
Senior Pastor Chee-Seng FAH, Sunday 23rd April
Vision
To build disciples who represents Jesus to everyone, everywhere with everything
Introduction
One of the key values in discipleship is hearing and obeying the Word. Therefore, it is important to have accountability to one another for our step of obedience from studying the Word. Spend the first part of your discussion asking – how did your step of obedience go from last time we met?
Scripture
View Introduction to Ecclesiastes. This will help you understand the Scripture in context.
Read:
- Ecclesiastes 1
- Ecclesiastes 3
Observation
- What do these passages tell us about God?
- What do these passages tell us about life?
- What did you like about this passage?
- What did you not like about this passage?
Application
Ps Chee shared that life as we know it only has purpose in view of eternity (Ecclesiastes 3:11-14)
- Eternity frees us to know purpose in every season
- Eternity frees us to live purposefully in every season
- Eternity frees us from trying to be God
Ps Chee shared that life is not a straight road. Life can be like ‘hevel’ (vapour or smoke). Reflect on your life and share how your life has been like ‘hevel’.
Describe the season of life that you are in. Can you see God’s purpose in the current season of your life? Discuss.
How does eternity help you life purposefully in your current season of life? Be specific.
In what ways have your struggles to find purpose and meaning in life been rooted in you trying to be God and not letting God be God?
Response
- Is there a truth that God wants you to obey?
- What will you do to obey this? I will…
Next Week
Ps Binh Nguyen will be sharing about the ‘Pleasures’. In preparation you can read Ecclesiastes 2. We also want to encourage you to invite your preChristian friends and family.
