“All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.”
Hebrews 11:39-12:2
Hebrews 11 gives us a list of faith heroes and they were remembered by God as righteous and commendable. However, the Bible also records for us their faith and also their fumbles in their families and family life. The modern Christian families struggles to come to terms with the ‘ideal’ picture of a Christian home and reality. Behind the calm and collect masks may lie deep family hurts and divisions. Much of these issues and their causes are current, but aren’t so different from the issues faced by families of our heroes of faith. Let’s take a journey and explore the family life of Abraham, David, and Joseph and see how their stories are similar to our stories.
