SOAR DISCUSSION GUIDE
Where Is Your Everywhere?
Vision Series
The Vision
building disciples who represent to Jesus to everyone, everywhere with everything
Note to life group leaders:
One of the key values in discipleship is hearing and obeying the Word. Therefore, it is important to have accountability to one another for our step of obedience from studying the Word. Spend the first part of your discussion asking – how did your step of obedience go?
Scripture
Read Mark 10:35-45.
(Before reading the Scripture you can watch this 10 minute video (https://www.rightnow.org/Content/Series/181310#43) from Right Now Media that provides an overview of the book of Mark. This can help bring a greater richness to understanding the passage)
Observation
Ps Chee shared that the disciples were following Jesus but they had misunderstood the kind of Jesus they were following. Therefore, they were at risk of living lives that misrepresents Him.
Ask one or more of the following questions:
– why were James and John making that request to Jesus?
– how did they see Jesus? How does seeing Jesus that way shape the way we represent Jesus to our everyone and our everywhere?
– what was the misconception about Himself that Jesus addressed? Why was this important to Him? How does this shape the way we represent Jesus to our everyone and our everywhere?
Application
Ask one or more of the following questions:
– Last week we were challenged us to ask one question to our spouse, family member or preChristian friend/family: “What kind of Jesus am I representing to you?” Discuss your experiences in asking that question.
– Take your discipleship circle out and spend time looking at the your list of everyone and everywhere. What would representing a servant King Jesus look like in the way you relate to your everyone and in your everywhere?
Response
Servanthood is essential in representing Jesus because the greatest barrier that hinders Jesus from living His life through you is you. The spirit of servanthood helps us become self-forgetful and frees us to represent the Jesus. Ps Chee shared five practical steps:
- Believe God wants to use you – God uses God dependent people because they are self-forgetful people.
- Look for opportunities to serve
- Serve by listening and learning
- Serve by showing and telling about Jesus
- Serve by simple sacrificial obedience
Look at your discipleship circle list of everyone and everywhere. Pray and ask the Lord – “Who do you want me to serve? How do you want me to serve them?”
Share with one another what your step of obedience and pray for one another.
