SOAR DISCUSSION GUIDE

One of the key values in discipleship is hearing and obeying the Word. Therefore, it is important to have accountability to one another for our step of obedience from studying the Word. Spend the first part of your discussion asking – how did your step of obedience go from last time we met?

Read Ecclesiastes 2

• What do these passages tell us about God?
• What do these passages tell us about life?
• What did you like about this passage?
• What did you not like about this passage?

Ps Binh shared three insights of our pursuit of pleasure:

1. The pleasure of amusement (2:2,3 and 8) – wittiness, wine and women
2. The pleasure of accomplishment (2:4-8) – work and wealth
3. The pleasure in the atonement (1 John 2:15-17)

Choose one or more of the following questions to discuss:

• Reflect on your life. In what ways are you pursuing satisfaction in wittiness, wine, women, work and wealth? Share. Describe your experience of that pursuit.
• Read 1 John 2:25-17. Your lust for the world will drive out your love for God. How can you identify with this?
• Describe how you are finding your pleasure in Jesus. Give examples of your experience in finding pleasure in chasing Jesus.
