SOAR DISCUSSION GUIDE

Living Courageous Lives

Ps Kenny
Scripture

Read 2 Thessalonians 2

Observation

Choose one or more of the following questions:

  • What was shaking and disturbing the church?
  • What was the deception? How will  the deception regarding the coming of Christ impact the life and faith of the Christians at Thessalonica?
  • Ps Kenny highlighted truths from the passage about the ‘man of lawlessness’. We see his character (vs 3), his crime (vs 4), his weapon of choice (vs 9-10), and his judgment (vs 11-12). How do you see this ‘mystery of lawlessness’ at work today?  In what ways are we and can we be deceived today in current issues (e.g. abortion, marriage equality, euthanasia)?
  • The scripture encourages us to stand firm in the midst of increasing lawlessness. He encourages us that we can stand firm because through Christ we  are loved, chosen, saved, sanctified and called (vs 13-17). How does this bring courage for you to stand firm in your faith and the way you live in the midst of lawlessness?

Application/Response

Do a stocktake if your life in light of eternity. Grab a sheet of paper and spend some time by yourself in your life group reflecting on your life:

  1. Make a list of things that is consuming you today. (As a guide, you can look through your calendar to see how you have been investing your time in the last month).
  2. Which one counts for eternity? (Base this assessment on the Word of God)
  3. Be courageous to cross out those that do not count for eternity and bring it to Jesus
  4. Be encouraged to keep up the good work that counts towards eternity
  5. Be courageous to make a new list that counts for eternity and for Jesus.

When you’ve completed your reflection, pair up with another life group member sharing, praying and holding one another accountable for your obedience.

Also continue to pray for wisdom for the Senior Pastor search committee as they look for the leader of God’s choosing.

Next week: Please read 2 Thessalonians 3 in preparation for this week.
