SOAR DISCUSSION GUIDE
The Heart of God – The Invitation to Be with Him Always
Pastor Philip Kua
9th August 2015
Scripture: Luke 9:57-62
Observations:
It has been around 2 years since Jesus had begun his public ministry and there is a growing following around Him. People in Galilee have been impressed by the power in Jesus’ teaching and miracles. In these conversations with 3 aspiring disciples, Jesus revealed the high cost of following him.
- In what ways are the words of Jesus used here, offensive even in this day and age?
- How is a worthy disciple of Jesus supposed to look like, according to these verses?
- To each of these aspiring disciples, what exactly is Jesus asking for from them?
Applications:
Pastor Philip shared that the heart of father is to bring out the best and to maximise the life of his children. By way of making these “odd” suggestions, Jesus is calling you in a dramatic way to choose to:
- Commit to be with Him always, under all kinds of circumstances
- Place supreme priority on Jesus, acting now and decisively to follow Him
- Not turn back from that decision to follow, to walk in faith to Him who wants to provide all of life
- How are these choices relevant to your following of Jesus today?
Response:
Pastor Philip used the example of Domestic vs Wild Geese at the close of the message, saying that even domestic geese hears the call to fly high and to adventure.
Which type of “geese” do you identify with in this story? How can you respond to Jesus’ voice in your heart today?
